Acedus This is kinda hard for me to answer because (at least to me), there really are no 'good' tropes nor 'bad' tropes, just overused ones and even then, I wouldn't discredit media which utilises an overused trope so long as it is executed well.
Of course, it always depends on if it is written well, so whatever trope we pick we can answer with the assumption that we're talking about when the trope is written well 🙂. I don't think there are necessarily bad tropes (all of them can be twisted into something good or bad), but there are tropes that I don't care for regardless of how they are written and how they are executed. Some of them are not interesting to me no matter what. Others, I find, I pretty much like no matter what.
Acedus Though, if I had to pick, it would be the 'Karmic Death' trope because:
A. It's always entertaining to see a character experience a fitting death.
B. It's really hard to mess up with the execution of that trope.
This is a great one, and yes, fitting deaths are the best deaths! I think I see this messed up more often than not, personally, though it really all depends on what one is reading and/or watching, but it is never so badly that it destroys or detracts from something.
Thank you for answering.
